Mt. Carmel Wellness & Community Center
Expands to Sister Blandina Wellness Gardens
in Downtown Trinidad
A Look at the Past…
Las Animas County is one of the poorest, most medically underserved counties in the state.
Since 2011, Mt. Carmel Wellness & Community Center’s focus has been on serving the most vulnerable populations.
We want to raise Las Animas County’s ranking to be in the top 50% of counties in Colorado for best health and wellness by 2030.
Mt. Carmel first opened its doors in 2011 with the mission to provide integrated healthcare, wellness and community partnerships that attract businesses, cultural and social opportunities.
In 2018, thanks to our new partnership with Salud, we were able to raise the bar in healthcare services to a much higher level, to include dental service.
Now, we are doing it again, only this time in the heart of Downtown Trinidad at Sister Blandina Wellness Gardens.
Mt. Carmel Wellness & Community Center, in partnership with Salud Medical and Dental Clinics and Sister Blandina Wellness Gardens, provides an ecosystem of health and wellness programs that serves the community through mind, body and spirit.
Mt. Carmel Expands to Sister Blandina Wellness Gardens
Sister Blandina Wellness Gardens, operated by Mt. Carmel Wellness & Community Center, is home to outdoor wellness programming, wellness walks, public and private events, and spiritual reflection.
Sister Blandina was born Maria Rosa Segale near Genoa, Italy in 1850. She moved with her family to Cincinnati at the age of four. At 16, she took her vows with the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, and in 1872, she boarded a stagecoach to Trinidad, Colorado, to begin life as a missionary. Just one of her many accomplishments was the creation of School District 1, and her legacy will live on as we pay tribute to her at Sister Blandina Wellness Gardens.
The Gardens allow Mt. Carmel Wellness & Community Center to offer its wellness programming as well as public and private events in downtown Trinidad.
